REVA University, School Of Legal Studies organized a Lecture on “Labour Laws in India” by Mr. Sri. K. Radha Krishna Holla, District and Session Judge [Rtd], on 20th May, 2017 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 P.M at C.V Raman Seminar Hall 2 of main block as part of celebrating International Labour Day. Thus providing the students of School of Legal Studies a chance to interact and gain knowledge about Indian Labour Laws.

The Chief Guest of this event was Sri. K Radhakrishna Holla. District and Sessions judge (Retd.) who after his practice as an advocate for half a decade served as a judge in various districts in Karnataka for 35 years. Who also has the longest service period due to having gotten a seven years extension for his exemplary service.

The guest lecture began at 11:30 a.m. in the C.V Raman Seminar Hall 2 of main block in the REVA University. The event was graced with the presence of Sri. K Radhakrishna Holla. District and Sessions judge (Retd.), Hon’ble Vice Chancellor REVA University Dr. S Y. Kulkarni and Dr. Sanjay Bagali Director School of Management Studies and Dr. M.L. Kalicharan Director School of Legal Studies REVA University.

The programme was started with an invocation made by students of law by reading the phrases of bhagavath geetha, Quran and bible and after which Dr. M.L Kalicharan Director School of Legal Studies REVA University, welcomed the guest and the august gathering. Followed by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. S Y. Kulkarni address to the students and faculty stating about of importance of law in present situation and need for law students contribution in developing and upholding the santity of law. The stage was handed over to the chief guest Sri K. Radha Krishna Holla.

Sri K. Radha Krishna Holla started session by introducing about labour and establishment of labour law. The labour law is a “British Establishment”. The term labour defines the employee and employer relationship. He explained that labour laws are the rights and obligations for the welfare of labour and to safeguard their rights. Taking the session forward he threw some light on labour policies that are prevalent in India. He also explained about collective bargaining and also discussed about the trade and management union. Later the session took ahead by explaining some of the acts of Indian labour laws like The Apprentice Act, The Payment of Gratuity Act, The Payment of Wages Act, to name a few. He threw some light on the pros and cons of the labour laws.

After the lecture the students were given an opportunity to interact with the chief guest and clarify their doubts regarding prevailing labor laws in India (focusing on the rights and responsibilities of a labor) through the spectacle of liberalizing laws in accordance to the modern society. The event concluded with the well wishes and Vote of Thanks by student representatives Varshita Nandagopal and Madhu Desai.
