Explore SoPA and IS at REVA A Juggernaut of Performing Arts

Explore SoPA&IS at REVA: A Juggernaut of Performing Arts

Performing Arts, comprising of Music, Dance and Theatre, is in demand as career choice like never before. The School of Performing Arts and Indic Studies at REVA University is the only University in South India with such a wide spectrum of programmes offered under one roof. REVA is also the only University in the southern part of the country to have a Masters’ programme in Kathak, and Masters and Diploma in Odissi. The School of Performing Arts and Indic Studies offers courses like Certificate, Diploma, BAPaEP (Triple degree in Performing Arts, English literature and Psychology), MPA (Masters of Performing Arts) and Ph.D. programmes. The Syllabus is world-class and bench-marked.

DYNAMIC PROGRAMMES
The school was renamed as School of Performing Arts and Indic Studies to broaden its scope and to offer more programmes/ courses relating to Indic Studies/Indology in coming years, and thereby facilitate students to understand better the rich philosophy, tradition, values, art, science, culture, and religions of India. Keeping this in view, the School of Performing Arts has come forward to also offer Diploma and PG Diploma programs in Indic Studies/ Indology from the academic year 2020-21.

Since the University has established a stronghold with the existing programmes, the School has branched out further this year with new programs like a Masters in Performing Arts in Hindustani Vocals, Masters in Carnatic Vocals and BA (Honours) in Music, Dance and Theatre.

Our existing UG course, the BAPaEP, is a triple major in Performing Arts, English and Psychology. While this is a unique yet advantageous combination, allowing students to diversify into different avenues and amalgamate their performing arts’ skill with allied fields like psychology to perhaps pursue courses like Dance therapy, or become prolific arts writers or columnists for performing arts’ related matters in popular papers and magazines, the BA Honours course solely focuses on the domain selected viz Dance, Music or Theatre and the student would get an opportunity to focus on different aspects of the field.

This will ensure that students become veritable masters of their turf. They would also enter their Masters with an edge because they have already been introduced to fundamentals in practical and theoretical aspects at an Undergraduate level.

PLATFORM FOR GLOBAL RECOGNITION
The School hosts performances through the ensemble/performance wing on prestigious platforms, both virtual and physical. Along with this, the School also organises major events and festivals like the Tyagara and Purandara Aradhane, World Dance Day, World Music Day, International conferences, Webinars by established and competent authorities on esoteric subjects. Students of SoPA&IS are encouraged to participate and win awards on various national and global platforms. Some of them have gone on to pursue higher studies at universities abroad.

EMINENT FACULTY
The School has membership of the reputable CID (Counsel International de Dance), collaborations with SPIC-MACAY and Indian Raga. Dr. Vidya Kumari S, the Directress, is a known figure in the world of Performing Arts’ academia and through her many lectures, webinars and research works, has propelled the school forward by leaps and bounds. The faculty members are all from reputed organizations and Gurukulas and recognised faces of the industry.

TRADITIONAL MEETS CONTEMPORARY
With the courses on Indology REVA throws light and tries to tangibilise some of that intangible heritage and advanced culture that existed in our great nation many centuries ago (while the rest of the world was still trying to fathom basic existence). Our courses in Dance, Music and Theatre feature traditional teaching pedagogy symbiosed with contemporary educational paradigms. We are sure that with all the above we will establish ourselves as a juggernaut of Performing Arts and Indic Studies in India and subsequently on the World Map.
