Making Quality a HABIT

Making Quality a HABIT

The month has been interesting with our flagship company DivyaSree winning two Awards: The SiliconIndia Real Estate Awards for Luxury Apartments bagged by 77°  and also The Times Business Award.  REVA University was not far behind with NAFEMS, UK awarding the University for:

  • Conceiving and implementing of industry-specific programs oriented towards Industry
  • Accreditations and quality practices in academics and industry-collaborations
  • Perception of the industry heads and professional bodies
  • Initiatives for developing engineering skills through industry partnered centres

The Times Business Award

One cannot perhaps conceive of a better synergy between the Industry and Academia as we see between DivyaSree and REVA University. I congratulate the entire team at DivyaSree and REVA University for having made it possible.

In retrospect, my journey has been oscillating between being an Entrepreneur and Edupreneur and it gives me utmost pleasure as I see both the verticals grow- soaring greater heights. Quality and aesthetics go hand in hand for me.  Quality- in my deliverables when it comes to building infrastructure or when it comes to moulding the minds of the youth today. Where does Quality stem from?  It stems from the basic nuances that we follow everyday right from planning for the day ahead to the closure of each day.  For an Educationist and for a teacher in particular, I have always emphasised on planning for each day to be of utmost importance.  A teacher has to touch the lives of every student who s/he interfaces with every hour of the day.  Each moment spent with students impacts their life.  Each class, each lecture that the faculty engages in will make a difference to the life of the student.  Gone are the days when a teacher could read from a text book and enter the lecture hall and deliver a lecture.  Today, our students can read and google enough from the internet and take an exam or get a clear pass.  What counts is the intellectual competency of the faculty who is interacting with them, the power of the teacher to trigger further thoughts, further ideas and explore and research into a topic.   We need to focus on the value addition that they will bring to Society as they graduate from our University. This can drive Quality in teaching-learning and this is where a teacher can make a difference.

An analogy to this would be my role as an Entrepreneur. Buildings and towers can be built by anybody.  The difference lies in the aesthetics, the design, the functional aspect of the space, the ergonomics, the impact that a space once handed over can do to the life of the end user, the personal touch and empathy that goes into every project.  This impact is ongoing as long as the user uses the space and this is where Quality comes to the picture.

I urge every member of the Group to enhance this Quality in all that they do and bring in the difference to our contribution in whatever small way possible to make that larger difference in Life. Awards and recognitions will flow as we focus on this important aspect of our life. To sum up, I quote Aristotle, the Greek Philosopher,

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.”
