Vanamahotsava at REVA A drive to plant 15,000 saplings

Vanamahotsava at REVA A drive to plant 15,000 saplings

While India celebrated its 75th year of Independence, REVA University marked the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate and launch the initiative of ‘One Student, One Tree’ campaign.

With a promise towards a greener and cleaner city, REVA University has made it a mission to plant 15,000 saplings around the city of Bengaluru through the tree plantation drive called ‘REVA Vanamahotsava.’ Through this contribution, the premier education institution REVA hopes to keep the spark of a nation that is greener as the years move on by instilling a sense of responsibility in students towards Mother Earth. Students who enroll at REVA from the academic year 2021-22 will engage themselves with planting a sapling to take on the mission of the University.

Currently, with 15,000 students studying at the University, REVA aims to plant 15,000 saplings by the end of August 2022. A few areas that REVA University has identified in the city are Srinivaspura, Kogilu Lake, Palanahalli Lake and several Gram Panchayat areas in and around the University campus for the sapling plantation drive. The process will roll out in phases with the first phase being administered by the residents of the hostel. Both students and teachers will aim at planting 3,000 saplings. The plantation drive will also be executed hand in hand with the BBMP with saplings being planted in pockets of forest areas that lack greenery. Eventually, REVA will assign each student with a mentor to allocate and carry out the task successfully.

Speaking about the green campaign, REVA University’s Honourable Chancellor Dr. P. Shyama Raju says, “In the next academic year, 6,000 new students will join the REVA family and we will take the campaign forward with these students as well. We aim to plant 6,000 saplings keeping the ‘One Student, One Tree’ campaign active. Along with this the tree plantation drive will be held at all the 10 government schools adopted by REVA through our CSR initiative – Abhivriddhi. We will engage the school students in the tree plantation drive and saplings will be planted in the school premises. Volunteers from REVA University and staff members of the government schools will ensure the maintenance of the saplings.”

Student led Eco Clubs at REVA University will monitor and assess the campaign with the help of mentors. On August 15, 2022 the best-grown tree will be recognised and awarded to the student and mentor who assisted in the maintenance of the tree.
