Eligibility Criteria

  • Passed Standard XII (10+2) examination from any recognized Board.
  • For Sports Quota: Participation in sports at the International/National/State/District level. In games recognized by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) / Association of Indian Universities (AIU) are desirable.

Note: Special intake quota is considered for people/Coaches/Elite athletes in sports.

Overview

In an ongoing quest to achieve high performance standards, the global demand for Sports Science is increasing. In line with this trend and with the objective of working towards making India a sporting nation, REVA University has introduced an innovative program in B.Sc. (Hons.) Sports Science. The School of Allied Health Science presents you with an opportunity to delve into this emerging field of Sports Science through the B.Sc. (Hons.) Sports Science program. This four-year full-time application-based program offered by REVA University combines theory and practical components, providing a strong foundation for understanding and applying the science behind sport performance, exercise, health, and physical activity & focuses on the scientific study of human movement, Exercise physiology, Sports performance, Sports Psychology, Sports Nutrition, Anthropometry, Strength & Conditioning and related areas.

Sports science programme provide a comprehensive education that encompasses Major core courses, Minor core courses, Multidisciplinary course, Skill development course, Ability Enhancement course, Value added courses, Internship and Research Project. Through these components, students acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, enabling them to contribute to the field, apply evidence-based practices, and pursue successful careers in sports science.

The mission of the B.Sc (Honours) in Sports Science program is to provide students with a comprehensive education in the scientific principles, theories, and practical applications of sports and exercise science. Through rigorous academic coursework, hands-on experiences, and research opportunities, we equip our students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for successful careers in the field. We are committed to fostering a learning environment that promotes critical thinking, innovation, ethical practices, and a multidisciplinary approach to address the complex challenges and opportunities in sports and exercise science. We strive to instill a passion for lifelong learning and a commitment to making positive contributions to society through the promotion of physical activity, health, and optimal human performance.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the Fundamentals: Gain a solid foundation in the key concepts of sports science, including Biomechanics, Physiology, Psychology, Nutrition, and exercise prescription.
  • Enhance Performance: Explore the physiological and biomechanical factors that contribute to superior athletic performance and learn strategies to optimize performance across different sports.
  • Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation: Study the causes of sports-related injuries and discover evidence-based approaches to prevent injuries and facilitate effective rehabilitation.
  • Training Principles: Dive into the principles of training, including periodization, load management, recovery techniques, and the use of technology to monitor and enhance training programs.
  • Sports Psychology: Explore the psychological factors that influence sports performance, including motivation, confidence, focus, goal setting, and mental resilience.
  • Nutrition for Athletes: Examine the role of nutrition in sports performance, including energy metabolism, hydration, nutrient timing, and dietary strategies to support optimal performance and recovery.
  • Sports Performance Analysis: Learn how to collect and analyze data using cutting-edge technology to evaluate an athlete's performance, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Ethical and Legal Considerations: Understand the ethical and legal implications in sports science, including doping, sportsmanship, athlete safety, and the responsibility of coaches and sports scientists.

Course Format:

This course combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Engage in interactive lectures, hands-on laboratory sessions, case studies, and group discussions. You will also have the opportunity to work with athletes, apply scientific principles to real-life scenarios, and develop practical skills that can be immediately implemented.

Students shall opt for exit after successful completion of 3rd year (six semesters) and with the successful completion of Courses equal to a minimum of 136 Credits, with Bachelor of Science - B Sc in Sports & Exercise Science OR Continue studies to earn B Sc Honors / B Sc Honors with Research Degree

Note: Students who secure 75% and above marks in the first six semesters and wish to undertake Research at the Undergraduate level can choose a Research stream in the fourth year and such students are awarded B Sc Degree ( Honours with Research)

Upon completion of the B.Sc. Honours program in Sports & Exercise Science, students should be able to demonstrate the following program outcomes:

Possess a comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles and theories related to sports and exercise science, including Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics, Biochemistry, Psychology, Nutrition, Anthropometry, Strength & conditioning and Exercise prescription.

Apply scientific knowledge and practical skills to assess, analyze, and enhance human performance in sports and exercise settings. This includes conducting fitness assessments, designing and implementing training programs, and utilizing appropriate techniques and technologies.
PO 3 Research Proficiency
Demonstrate proficiency in research methodologies, including study design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Be able to critically evaluate scientific literature and apply research findings to real-world situations in sports and exercise science.
