Overview

The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) program at REVA University is a professional five-year undergraduate course designed to prepare students for the dynamic field of architecture and related disciplines. The program is offered under the provisions of the REVA University Act, 2012, and is conducted in accordance with the standards prescribed by the Council of Architecture (COA), ensuring compliance with the Minimum Standards of Architectural Education Regulations, 2020.

The B.Arch. program spans five academic years divided into ten semesters, with each semester comprising approximately 16 weeks of instruction. Students are required to complete a minimum of 292 credits distributed across Professional Core Courses, Building Sciences and Allied Engineering Courses, Professional Ability Enhancement Courses, Professional Electives, Open Electives, and Foundation Courses. The curriculum integrates theory classes, practical sessions, and design studios, with design studios serving as the cornerstone of experiential learning, creativity, and professional skill development.

To be eligible for admission, candidates must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and one of the following as an optional subject: Chemistry, Biology, Technical Vocational Subject, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering Graphics, or Business Studies, securing a minimum aggregate of 45% marks. Additionally, candidates must qualify either the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) or JEE Main (B.Arch. Paper 2).

The admission process is based on merit, considering the candidate’s performance in the qualifying examination and the prescribed entrance examination, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Council of Architecture and relevant Karnataka educational authorities. Relaxation in eligibility criteria is provided to reserved category candidates as per government regulations.

The curriculum is designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of architectural design, technical knowledge, professional ethics, and practical skills. The program follows a semester and credit-based system with continuous assessment and end-semester evaluations.

Assessment includes Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) through tests, assignments, quizzes, seminars, and other academic activities. Semester End Examinations (SEE) are conducted for theory courses, while practical examinations and viva voce assessments evaluate practical competencies.

Design studios and professional project work are continuously assessed through internal and external reviews, presentations, and jury evaluations. Student performance is graded on a scale ranging from ‘O’ (Outstanding) to ‘F’ (Fail), which contributes to the calculation of Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Students must achieve the prescribed minimum CGPA to qualify for the award of the degree. Provisions for revaluation and challenge valuation may be available as per university regulations.

The program includes mandatory professional training totaling 32 weeks (16+16 weeks) under the supervision of practicing architects. This training may be undertaken anywhere in India or abroad, providing students with valuable industry exposure and practical experience.

Students participate in study tours during each semester to explore architectural landmarks, construction practices, and urban environments, thereby enhancing their understanding of real-world architectural contexts. The final year culminates in a thesis project, allowing students to demonstrate their accumulated knowledge and design capabilities through an independent architectural project.

Each student is assigned a faculty advisor and mentor who provide academic guidance and personal support throughout the program through a structured mentor-mentee system.

The School Advisory Board and Board of Studies, comprising experienced architects, industry professionals, and academicians, oversee curriculum development, admissions, and academic quality. Regular academic audits, feedback mechanisms, and statutory compliance procedures are implemented to maintain high educational standards.

Students are expected to adhere to the code of conduct prescribed by REVA University. Any violation of university regulations may result in disciplinary action in accordance with institutional policies.
