M.Tech in Construction Technology and Management

Construction Technology and management is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerage systems, pipelines, and railways.

The modern day Construction Technology and management graduate should have wider knowledge of surveying grading design, drainage, pavement, water supply, sewer service, dams, electric and communications supply and preparations of construction plans. Construction Technology and management must possess technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, environmental engineering, transportation engineering and construction engineering as applied to residential, commercial, and industrial and public works projects of all sizes and levels of construction. In addition, present day Construction Technology and management should be able to use Primavera and Virtual reality tools for design and visualization of complex civil engineering structures. If they possess knowledge of Artificial intelligence will be an added advantage for maintenance and monitoring of infrastructural projects.

Employment of Construction Technology and management is projected to grow in next ten years, faster than the average for all occupations. Government of India is investing on infrastructure development to rebuild, repair, and upgrade bridges, roads, levees, dams, airports, buildings, railways, metros and other structures.

A growing population and urbanization means more buildings, new water systems, roads, waste treatment plants leading to increased demand for Construction Technology and management.

Prospects for Construction Technology and management engineers are expected to be good. They will be best for those with training in the latest software tools, particularly for computational design, simulation and management. Such tools allow engineers and designers to take a project from the conceptual phase till the end. Engineers who have experience or training in three-dimensional printing of concrete structures also will have better job prospects.
