Alumni Talk on Electricity Markets in India and the World
REVA University's School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, in collaboration with the REVA University Alumni Association, organized a technical talk on "Electricity Market - In India and the World" on 13th March 2023. The event aimed to provide valuable insights into the functioning of electricity markets and their significance in the global energy landscape. The talk was specifically tailored for the 4th-semester students of the School of EEE, offering them an opportunity to explore the various aspects of the electricity market and its potential career opportunities. The talk featured Mr. Jwalith Desu, an accomplished alumnus and EIT Inno Energy scholar. With double masters in Energy Engineering and Electrical Engineering, specializing in Energy Markets, Regulation, Policy, and Economics from renowned universities in Belgium and Sweden, Mr. Desu brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the session. His professional experience, including work at L&T and the Belgian Energy regulator, as well as his current role as a Strategy and Business Developer at Nord Pool AS, Norway, added significant value to the event.
The session covered a wide range of topics related to the electricity market, including the basics of electricity market operations, the importance of understanding this domain, and the parameters influencing the Indian electricity market. Mr. Desu also provided a comparative analysis of electricity markets in India and other parts of the world, shedding light on the similarities and differences. Additionally, he highlighted the various opportunities available for electrical engineers in the electricity market, inspiring students to explore this dynamic field.
The talk received an overwhelming response from 103 enthusiastic participants, who found the session to be highly informative and inspiring. Students gained a comprehensive understanding of the electricity market and its potential implications for the energy sector. The interaction with Mr. Jwalith Desu provided a valuable platform for clarifying doubts and seeking guidance from an industry expert.
