BETWEEN THE LINES 2021
Manifold resilient built environment
A 2 Days Virtual International Conference
Dates: 12th and 13th March 2021
Last date for Abstract submission extended to 14th February 2021
Resilience has become the new Catch phrase in architecture/ urban planning replacing the term sustainable as the most coveted and desirable attribute of the environment.
The anthropocene era has witnessed constant threats to the environment ranging from natural disasters, manmade disasters such as pollution and war to global epidemics. The unmitigated impact of the COVID 19 pandemic has forced us to re imagine private and public architecture as well as the way ahead for our urban centres. There has been a gradual acceptance of the fact that architecture and urban planning needs to be resilient in order to sustain and remain relevant in face of these ever evolving challenges.
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines Resilience as an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change.
When applied to the realm of architecture/ urban planning, resilience may imply design of adaptable structures/ urban environments that can “learn” from their environments and sustain life, even in the face of disaster.
Secondly, resilience may be a desirable attribute for architects/ urban planners as they learn from their buildings/ urban projects and deploy ever more refined designs.
The conference aims to highlight this duality in the meaning and application of resilience to the field of urban planning and architecture. Experts from various transdisciplinary fields will be invited to share a common platform and propose the combined knowledge towards manifold resilient built environment.
The following tracks are proposed for the conference:
1. Architecture/ Planning for resilience against climate change
2. Architecture/ Planning for Resilience against Natural disasters
3. Architecture/ Planning for Resilience against Anthropogenic hazards
4. Post Pandemic architecture/ Post Pandemic Urban futures
Note: Selected papers will be published in SCOPUS/ UGC / Others (at additional charges)
