Description: School of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a Webinar on Cultural Talk on “Space Communication-A Practical Perspective” on 27th July 2020 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.The resource person was Mr .B. A Subramani.
• Shri B.A.Subramani is the Secretary & Station Director of ISRO’s Upagrah Amateur Radio Club. He joined ISRO in the year 1984 & working as a ’Space Simulation Engineer’ in the area of Space Environmental Simulation Test Facilities. Currently, he is holding the post of ‘Director-Educational Out Reach Programme’ of AMSAT-India.
Achievements :
• Conducted space environmental simulation tests on all the spacecrafts including Chandrayaan-1, Mars Orbiter Mission & the latest Chandrayaan-2,
• He is a Radio Ham since 1986, holding an Advance Grade Amateur Radio License with the radio call-sign VU2WMY
• Won first place consecutively for five years in Trans-India Contest.
• The founder members of AMSAT-INDIA
• Involved in ground station setup, tracking & decoding of telemetry signals from the Indian students built University Nano Satellites namely, STUDSAT, SRMSAT, JUGNU, COEPSAT, SATYABASAT, PRATAHAM & Indian Nano Sats INS 1A, 1B & 1C & also various other International student satellites.
• Rendered his voluntary services & support in establishing & operating on-site Ham Radio Emergency Communication station for Relief & Rescue operations during several natural calamities & disasters, such as devastating floods & cyclone at Rajamundry & Cuddapa districts of Andhra Pradesh. Lattur Earth Quake & during cyclones at Orissa & southern Districts of Tamil Nadu, Cuddalore during the 2004 Tsunami..
• Conducted several live Ham Radio demos, workshops & delivered talks & lectures on numerous occasions in various schools, engineering colleges, universities & other institutions across the Country.
Description of Webinar:
The talk was attended by more than 75 attendees from across the schools and got insights in to the field of Space Communication.
The webinar gave insight to Satellite communication, Applications of artificial satellites, why satellites are important, based on applications how satellites can be classified, Advantages of satellite communication over terrestrial communication.
The talk also focused on real time satellite tracking, Basic requirements to track the satellite like software and Hardware requirements, methods to obtain Kepler elements. Some illustrations of signals received through tracking system.
This talk has motivated the students, many students have showed an interest and requested for series of webinars in this domain.
We would like to thank our beloved Chancellor, Dr. P. ShyamaRaju sir for providing all facilities and support to conduct this programme. Registrar Dr M. Dhanamjaya sir, for their motivation, help and support to conduct webinar.
We also thank our Director, School of ECE, Dr. R C. Biradar, and Assistant Director Dr. K M Sudarshan for their constant support and always motivating us to organize such events in School of ECE. We thank the faculty and technical staff of School of ECE and student fraternity for attending and supporting us to conduct the Webinar successfully.
