FDP on IPR, scientific writing and recent trends in research

Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied Sciences
Date: 07.06.2021 to 11.06.2021

The Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied Sciences organised Five days virtual Faculty Development Program on “IPR, SCIENTIFIC WRITING AND RECENT TRENDS IN RESEARCH“ in association with KSCST.

IPR have underpinned the development of multiple effective vaccines in IPRs have been crucial, promoting trust, knowledge-sharing and collaboration between organisations and individuals.  In the present pandemic scenario also they remarkably compressed timeframes and the mass scale-up of manufacturing. IP rights are mischaracterised as a “monopoly” when in fact they drive competition, resulting in multiple competing medicines and placing downward pressure on price.

To get firsthand information on IPR and drafting effective research proposals, quality research publications and acquainting with recent advances in research we need guidance of experienced professionals who can throw light on these crucial aspects. The REVA IPR Cell was established at REVA University in association with KSCST with this moto.

In this context this FDP was organized to give a deeper insight of IPR in protecting the innovations legally and the various skill sets for carrying out effective research and the documentation in terms of scientific writing.

The inaugural session was immediately followed by technical sessions. The three days sessions on scientific writing and recent trends in research gave a broader perspective of the scientific documentation of project proposals and drafting of quality research paper for publication in peer reviewed journals with good impact factor.  The later sessions touched upon the ethical practices in research. The sessions also highlighted the advancements in fields such as microscopy and flow cytometry for carrying out effective research.

The resources persons for first two days, Mr. B. Vivek Anand Sagar, Dr.Lipika Sahoo and Dr. Sarasija Padmanabhan gave a crystal clear picture of IPR, Patent search, Patent filing and documentation. Dr.G B Manjunatha Reddy,  Dr. V. Balamurugan, Dr.Santosh Podder ,  Dr.Dinesh Rangappa, Dr.Rajguru Aradhya, Dr. Manju NJ  gave clear picture of various aspects related to proposal writing, quality publications, ethics in research and recent advances in the field of microscopy and cancer research.
