FDP on Orientation Towards NBA

The School of Electronics and Communication Engineering has organized FDP on “Orientation Towards NBA”on 29th -30th July 2019 in Aryabhata seminar hall, C V Raman block. Delegates attending FDP were faculty from different schools of REVA University and from institutions affiliated to VTU. The inauguration function was held on 29th July 2019 at 10:00 AM. The inauguration started with invocation song by Miss. Sushma followed by REVA anthem, and lighting the lamp by the dignitaries.

Prof. Rohini Deshpande, Co-convener of the FDP welcomed the guests and gathering. Dr. R C Biradar director school of ECE spoke about the significance and importance of FDP. Dr. Lingana Gouda Kulkarni, the chief guest and resource person highlighted the need for NBA in the University context and briefed about the sessions he is going to cover in the faculty development programme. Prof. S Y Kulkarni, the VC REVA University gave the presidential remarks and advised all the delegates to be in preparedness; in case their administration decides to go for NBA. The chief guest was felicitated on the occasion by presenting a REVA memento. The inauguration function was concluded by vote of thanks from Prof. Mrinal Sarvagya.

The orientation towards NBA was carried out in 15 well thought modules spanned over two days. The first session focused on the importance and basics of Outcome Based Education (OBE). The relation and correlation between objectives and outcomes are discussed.

The second session focused on Accreditation: A quality initiative covered the need for quality in education. The importance of value addition to quality education by the value adder-“The Teacher” was highlighted. Quality has to be seen as a measure of performance of the student up to their satisfaction.

The third session focused on NBA: A Quality Journey. The accreditation policy of NBA, the process followed by the NBA and the compliance to Washington Accord was explained. All 10 criteria of Self-Assessment Report(SAR), marks allotment for each criteria and evaluation schemes were discussed in length.

The fourth session focused again on OBE: A Paradigm Shift in Education. The clear difference between objectives and outcomes and how OBE sets the target for outcomes was discussed. The prerequisites for OBE implementation was covered in subsequent sessions covering teaching, learning, assessment. Application of Bloom’s taxonomy to facilitate measurement of level of learning in cognitive, affective and psychomotor domain was explained. The importance, purpose and components of rubrics were made to understand. Steps involved in developing rubrics were explained. The final session was interaction with participants.

Valedictory was held on the last day of FDP. The Guest of honor for the function was Mr. Ramchandra Bagdalkar, Ex- Director HR, Bharath Electronics Limited, Bangalore. Prof Raji C, gave an overview about the coverage of different sessions of the FDP. Prof. Riyaz Ahamad of school of ECE and Prof Padmanabha of East Point College of Engineering gave critical appreciation about the FDP. Dr. Linganagouda Kulkarni and Director ECE distributed certificates to all the participants. Feedback from participants had been taken. All the participants have expressed that the 2 days FDP was very effective and helpful for them. Eventually, Prof. Sugandha Saxena delivered vote of Thanks.

We would like to thank our beloved Chancellor, Dr. P. Shyama Raju sir for providing all facilities and support to conduct this programme. We also thank Vice Chancellor Dr.S.Y.Kulkarni sir, Advisor, Dr. V G Talawar sir, Registrar Dr. M. Dhanamjaya sir, and Dean-Training, Placement and Planning, Dr. N. Ramesh sir, for their motivation, help and support in making this FDP a grand success. We also thank our Director, School of ECE, Dr. R C. Biradar, for his constant support and guidance. Our thanks are also due, to faculty members and technical staff of school of ECE for their support.
