The Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied Sciences organised an Alumni talk for First year and second year PG students of Biotechnology with alumni student, Dr.Nirmalya Ganguly, Scientist C, Gene – Protein Engineering Lab, NIAB, Hyderabad, Telangana. He belongs to 2005-2007 batch of MSc Biotechnology. The session was on 4.6.2021. The talk was scheduled through Microsoft Teams App which was easily available to all the students.

 The title of the talk was “Genetic Manipulation for increasing productivity in farm animals”.

A detailed explanation of the ongoing research in NIAB with respect to improvement of transgenic animals for producing biotherapeutic compound was given by the speaker.  The various advance techniques in the field of molecular biology and genetic engineering were clearly presented to the virtual gathering. The various modes of introducing the foreign gene into the farm animals were explained with rat models. The invivo expression of rDNA was explained to the students. The shRNA mediated knock down of gene expression was also discussed in the session with model animals. Students got a real time picture of intensive research happening in the reputed lab of NIAB. It was a very interactive and informative session.
