Theme of Lecture: “What makes a first generation entrepreneur success? “
A power packed guest lecture on “WHAT MAKES A FIRST GENERATION ENTREPRENEUR SUCCESS?” was organized on 18th Dec 2019 for B.B.A. ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOURTH SEMESTER Students and faculty members by the School of Management Studies, REVA University. The guest lecture was delivered by Ms. Rashmi Shetty, a start-up entrepreneur and eminent speaker, and was aimed at inspiring the students towards the concept of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial abilities and first-generation entrepreneurial success. Entrepreneurship and innovation is the key to the economic development of a country, hence he aimed at sensitizing the students that in order to be successful first generation entrepreneurs, it is important for them to focus on personal development, innovative spirit and entrepreneurial acumen.
Profile of the resource person-
Ms. Rashmi Shetty completed her MBA from SYMBIOSIS University in HR And Business administration. She has been always aspired from empowering self and others, She is currently playing the role of entrepreneur, her greatest realization is to join a team or an organisation by not seeing its size, but on to which extent it can let you become the best version of herself.
Ms. Rashmi’s credentials include-
Is a certified counsellor from Banjara University, career counsellor from Royal Institute, Mental Health counsellor from Royal Institute, Internal lead Auditor 9001-2015 -TUV Nord. Certified as Handwriting Analyst from Handwriting Indian Institute of Bangalore.
She is currently the VICE PRESIDENT – STATE KARNATAKA – INDIAN HUMAN RIGHTS WOMEN WING, SECERATARY – KARNATAKA STATE- INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS WOMEN EMPOWERMENT, ROTARY GREEN CLUB BANGALORE – VOCATIONAL TRAINER DIRECTOR – DISTRICT LEVEL.
The guest lecture was aimed at bridging this Gap in REVA University and igniting the young graduates with the inspiration from eminent entrepreneurs about the need to develop their creative talent, entrepreneurial skills and acumen. The resource person, Ms. Rashmi spoke about her entrepreneurial journey and challenges faced in her endeavor. She gave an introduction on her business venture- “Skill Cluster”, its vision, mission and achievements. She also told about the leadership qualities needed and challenges to be faced in our entrepreneur journey.
She linked management as an art, science and profession, which should involve:
• No regrets
• Following ones heart not head
• Invest more in product than marketing
• Stand for something
• Focus on customers and passion
• Build culture
• Take risk.
She showed us video on JEFF BEZOS which talked about rate of failure and need of risk taking and never giving up. Another video was about a young entrepreneur which spoke about the need of innovation and right time to start our venture.
Students also learnt about diversity in organization which includes culture diversity, impact of cultural diversity and globalization.
Two activities were conducted- one was building a pile out of coins in a given time and second activity was placing coins on a paper cup in a given time which told about the strategies involved in competition and importance of decision making and creativity.
She motivated our students with words of inspiration and spoke about entrepreneurial competencies. Ms. Rashmi spoke about traits of successful entrepreneurs and illustrated videos to make her opinion more impactful on students. She linked management as an art, science and profession. She conducted interesting activities on building vision and diversity management in organizations. Students were delighted and highly inspired on attending this session.
The guest lecture was very fruitful and interesting for the participating students and faculty. I, as the coordinator would like to thank Director, Dr. Shubha A for supporting and motivating us to organize such special lectures. I thank Hon’ Chancellor sir, Vice Chancellor sir, Registrar sir and entire management for providing us with all resources, facilities and motivation to organize such resourceful events that help our students to learn and develop. I am thankful to Dr. S. K. Prasad for being instrumental in connecting us with such a learned and experienced resource person.
