Guest talk on Importance of Genetic testing (DNA testing) in Diagnosis and Medical Research

Dr. Prabhakara S, Professor and Head of the department of Genetics and Central research Lab, Raja Rajeshwari Medical college and Hospital, Bangalore delivered a talk on “Importance of Genetic testing (DNA testing) in diagnosis and medical research”. The session was about molecular testing, Chemical testing and Biochemical testing. Sir throwed light on Neurological disorders and episoidal movement disorders. Sir also exhibited upon few case studies where the patients deal with changes in their day-to-day life, approximately from months to more than 10 years. Normal case studies on symptoms sudden from 5 years of age and diagnosed as PKD. Studies on PKD showed that diagnosed by PKD and multifocal dysfunction. Different DNA extraction method and Quantification and Identification and their changes was noted. Sir also gave idea on Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type I and implication of Karyotyping and Idiogram and ISCN-2013. Case studies of different diseases were discussed, for one year of child development of child undergoing Penoscrotal Hypospadias, how does this birth defect affects scrotal sac of urethra positioned in abnormal position. Multiplex PCR The benefits of multiplex PCR can be substantial in labs where repeated analysis of similar types of samples and the same targets is required. Advantages include gaining more information with limited starting materials, its cost-effective nature, time saving and higher throughput.
