The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) is pleased to announce an upcoming industrial visit to the Varahi Underground Power House in Hosangadi Proper, Karnataka. This visit is organized specifically for students pursuing M.Tech in Power and Energy and is scheduled for March 27th, 2023.
The Varahi Underground Power House is a hydroelectric power plant that is located in the Hosangadi Proper region of Karnataka. This plant has been instrumental in the production of clean and renewable energy in the state of Karnataka. It has a total installed capacity of 460 MW, making it one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in the region.
The primary objective of this industrial visit is to provide students with an opportunity to gain firsthand experience of the working of a hydroelectric power plant. This visit will offer students a unique insight into the process of generating electricity from the force of water. Moreover, it will give them a chance to understand the various aspects of power generation and distribution, including the technology involved, the safety protocols followed, and the environmental impact of hydroelectric power generation.
During the visit, students will be accompanied by experienced faculty members and experts from the power generation industry. They will be guided through the entire process of power generation, from the intake of water from the reservoir to the distribution of electricity to the grid. The students will also have the opportunity to interact with the technical staff of the power plant and gain valuable insights into the workings of the industry.
The visit will expose the students to the practical challenges involved in the generation of renewable energy, such as the impact of weather conditions on power generation, the challenges of managing the water resources, and the measures taken to minimize the environmental impact of the power plant. This industrial visit will be a valuable addition to the academic curriculum of the students pursuing M.Tech in Power and Energy.
