INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO NEW MANGALORE PORT

The New Mangalore Port was inaugurated on 11th January 1974. Mr. Srinivas Mallya was the visionary who was behind the construction of Mangalore Port.The Port was declared as 9th Major Port of India on May 4 1974.

The students of 4th semester School of Civil Engineering, REVA UNIVERSITY, visited New Mangalore Port on 26th April 2019.
New Mangalore Port is a Class B port. In 2018 it handled Cargo up to 42.4 Million Tonnes. It is the cleanest port in India. It boasts a deep water harbor which is conducive to handle large ships. It is one of the few ports in India which can support the Cruise Ships.

There are totally 22 Berths available in the Port, but currently only 19 are being used and rest are in construction Phase.  In the visit students learned about students saw various components of Port such as, Breakwaters, Quays, Jetties, they also understood about drenching, during the visit 2 ships were carrying out drenching activity.
