International Online Conference on Life Competencies of Children and Adolescents of 21st Century

The Department of Psychology, School of Arts and Humanities organised the international virtual conference on 28th May 2020 and 29th May 2020 through Microsoft Teams online platform.  

The theme of the conference was “Life Competencies of Children and Adolescents of 21st Century.” On 28th May 2020, the first day of the conference, Dr. Payel Dutta Chowdhury (Director, School of Arts and Humanities) welcomed the participants and Dr. Hemantha Kumara V (Coordinator, Department of Psychology, School of Arts and Humanities) presented the inaugural speech. The honorable Chancellor of REVA University, Dr. P. Shyama Raju delivered the presidential note and inaugurated the conference. Dr. G. Venkatesh Kumar (Dean-Science and Technology, Professor of Psychology, Department of Studies in Psychology, University of Mysore) gave the keynote address and emphasized on the competencies of children and adolescents of Gen Z. Dr. Jahnavi Devdutt (Clinical Psychologist, NIMHANS) was the first plenary speaker and she emphasized on how people can enhance Positive Mental Health. The second plenary speaker Dr. Shanmukh Kamble (Professor, Department of Psychology, Karnataka University, Dharwad) elaborated on research related to “Being in Just World”. Two sessions of paper presentations were chaired by the plenary speakers, Dr. Jahnavi Devdutt and Dr. Shanmukh Kamble. 


On 29th May 2020, second day of the conference, it started with keynote address by Dr. Lucy Bowen (Play Therapist, United Kingdom) and she explained about play therapy across the life span. The first plenary speaker, Dr. Damanjit Sandu (Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, Punjabi University, Patiala, Punjab) highlighted on the impact of online addiction among children and adolescents. The second plenary speaker, Dr. Ashok H S highlighted on the role and need of relationships on Social Media. The participants actively participated in question and answer rounds after every session which was very encouraging and rewarding for all the participants. There were two sessions of paper presentations in which many researchers presented their research papers and were given critical reviews about their work. The participants were delighted and provided positive feedback about getting an opportunity to listen to the national and international subject experts from varied domains and they looked forward for similar conferences.
