LEADCON 2020 preconference workshop On Lead(Pb) awareness and Global warming

Department of Biochemistry, School of applied sciences organized a Preconference workshop on “Lead Awareness and Global Warming” as a Jagruti Initiative on 8/02/2020 in association with NIMHANS, Bengaluru. The inaugural function of the 6th International LEADCON 2020 preconference workshop was held at Kuvempu Auditorium, REVA University. The function was presided by Dr P Shyama Raju, Hon’ble Chancellor, REVA University. The Guests for the conference included Dr. Thuppil Venkatesh, the LEAD man of INDIA, Professor, Emeritus, St. John’s Medical College, Dr. Girdhar J, Secretary General, Quality Council of India; Sri K V R Tagore, Retd. IPS. The other dignitaries included Dr S Y Kulkarni, Vice chancellor, REVA University; Dr N Dhanamjaya, Registrar, REVA University; Dr Praveen Sharma, Professor, AIIMS, Jodhpur and Dr Beena G, Associate Dean, REVA University. The Jagruti song was presented by Prof Nanjappa and team from School of Performing Arts. The Guests expressed their views on Sustainable development and how we can make earth a better place to live in. A total of 400 teachers from different schools in and around Bangalore participated in the workshop to get educated and in turn educate the young minds. Teachers from various Govt Schools and private schools such as DPS, Vidyashilp, Jnana Jyothi were a part of this programme
The inaugural function was followed by a series of lectures from eminent speakers on diverse topics related to lead. The first talk was by Dr. T Venkatesh on “Lead Awareness and Global warming” which was followed by an amazing lecture by Dr. Anita R Bijoor on “Sources and health effects of Lead”. The next talk was given by Prof. N Shashidhara on “You be a LEADer” followed by a presentation by Prof. L.Pugazhenthy on “Lead and You- Working and living safely”. The gathering was addressed by Prof. Sripathy L on “Cultural practices leads to Lead poisoning in India” followed by Dr. Abbas Ali Mahdi on “Lead toxicity an occupational hazard”. The sessions were concluded by a Panel Discussion on “Lead Awareness and Global Warming”. In a nutshell, all the lectures poured out an immense knowledge on how Lead is affecting at various levels.
