About the Event/Activity: School of Architecture, REVA University organized a mapping exercise and mock survey along the Bagalur main road in Kattigenahalli as a part of the Architectural Design -III studio. The course requires the students to document an urban/ rural setting based on parameters like socio-economy, culture, land use, physical infrastructure, social infrastructure, vegetation cover, road hierarchy, road condition, traffic management, street character, building heights, housing typology and the different kinds of activities.
The main intention of the site visit was to give the students an idea of the approach and method of conducting a documentation study based on the above mentioned parameters and as a precursor to the documentation study tour to Anegundi-Bukkasagara
Outcome of the Event: The students were divided into groups of 4-5 based on the above mentioned parameters and the study was conducted from 9:30am to 12pm to capture all the data with reference to the parameters. All the data been collated in the form of maps with specific legends. The students then conducted a SWOT analysis of the collected data to propose specific design interventions for the identified issues. This exercise gave the students an understanding of how to map various elements on ground as well conduct survey.
I would like to thank our Director, Prof. Vidya Srikanth for her immense support in encouraging such initiatives.
