The School of Arts and Humanities of REVA University screened the movie “Her” on 23 August 2019 from 10.50 AM to 11.50 AM in the Media Center, Vivekananda Block, REVA University.
Set in the digital era, the movie “Her” falls under the science fiction genre. An American romantic drama, “Her” written, produced and directed by Spike Jonze, portrays the life of a man who forms a relationship with an Artificially Intelligent (AI) virtual assistant with a female voice. The movie presents a dystopic vision of love in the digital era. The themes of hyperrealism vs. the realism and the physical vs. the virtual world are reflected throughout the movie.
The movie screening was followed by a session of movie review in which the students were taken in by the concepts of hyperrealism and dystopia. They participated in the thematic analysis of “Her” with enthusiasm.
