Movie Screening of Partition: 1947

The School of Arts and Humanities of REVA University conducted a movie screening on the theme of Indo-Pakistani partition. The movie, “Partition: 1947” released in 2017 was screened for the students of 1 MA Journalism on 19 August 2019 from 1.40 PM to 4.25 PM in the Media Room.

Directed by the filmmaker, Gurinder Chadha, “Partition: 1947” traced the history of the India-Pakistan partition and its various socio-political implications. Inspired by real life events, the movie retold the story of partition on the basis of the decisions made by the Indian political leaders, Jawaharlal Nehru and Muhammad Ali Jinnah mediated by the last Viceroy of India, Lord Louis Mountbatten. The movie also unfurls cross-religious romance in its play with the characters, Alia and Jeet who belonged to the Muslim and Hindu religions respectively.

Subsequent to the movie screening was a discussion on the element of realism in the depiction of partition in the movie. The historical account of partition from the point of view of the colonizer was highlighted throughout the discussion.
