National Conference on “Computational World in Life Sciences”
The Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, School of Applied Sciences organised a one day national conference themed “Computational World in Life Sciences” on 12th January 2019 at A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Seminar hall, REVA University. The inaugural function was presided by Dr. P.Shyama Raju, Honorable chancellor, REVA University. Dr. Shailesh Kumar Staff Scientist II, Bioinformatics Laboratory, National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi was the esteemed chief guest for the conference and the guest of honour was Dr. Mohit Mazumder, Scientific Manager, Section of Computational Biology & Chemistry, Excelera-National network of Health system, Hyderabad. The other Dignitaries included Dr. S.Y.Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor, REVA University; Dr. N Ramesh, Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology, REVA University and Dr. Beena G Associate Dean, REVA University. Around 120 students and Research Scholars from various institutions across the Country participated in the conference and exhibited their Research. The conference received 67 Abstracts out of which 56 are to be published in the special issue of Research Journal of Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, Pharmaceuticals and Chemical Science which is UGC indexed. The formal inauguration was followed by Lecture sessions.
The First expository talk was delivered by Dr. Shailesh Kumar on “Surge of Genomics data from Microbes to plants. This was followed by the Second Lecture on “The use of AI/ML and deep learning in HIT Identification phase of drug discovery” by Dr. Mohit Mazumder. 30 Participants delivered an oral presentation of their research work and 19 posters were presented. The feedback received from participants were very encouraging. Prizes were distributed to the awardees of oral presentation segregated into three different categories: internal students, external scholars and internal scholars and top three prizes for posters during the valedictory function
