One Week Virtual Faculty Development Programme on Big Data Analytics Using Spark and Scala 
Dates: 27th July to 2nd August, 2020

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME:
In 10 years’ time, Big Data and Machine Learning has effectively become the world’s most popular analytical tools for large amount of data. Spark is a data processing framework that can quickly perform processing tasks on very large data sets, and can also distribute data processing tasks across multiple computers, either on its own or in tandem with other distributed computing tools. These two qualities are key to the worlds of big data and machine learning, which require the marshalling of massive computing power to crunch through large data stores. Data Scientists tend to favor Scala as a programming language to tackle Big Data with ease.

SCHEDULE:
Day 1 - Introduction to Big Data Analytics & Machine Learning: Overview of machine learning techniques to explore, analyze, and leverage data. Discussion of tools and algorithms to create machine learning models that learn from data, and to scale those models up to big data problems.
Day 2 - Scala: Environment set-up, data types, syntax, collections, Lists, Sets, Maps, Tuples, Options, Iterators, pattern matching, regular expressions.
Day 3 - Scala: Combining Scala and Java concurrency, Runnable/Callable, Threads, Executors/ExecutorService, Futures
Day 4 - Spark: Basics, RDD, Spark SQL, Datasets, Hadoop, MapReduce, key/value storage systems.
Day 5 - Spark: Data Frames, Structured Programmeming and Streaming, Spark Machine Learning, Spark graph processing, The future of Spark
Day 6 - Flink: Basics, Architecture, Setup, APIs, libraries, Flink’s event-me processing mode and fault tolerance model, fundamentals and building blocks of the DataStream API, including its me-based and stateful operators
Day 7 - Assignments and Evaluation session
