On October 19th, 2020 School of Architecture, REVA University celebrated World Architecture Day to nourish and engage young minds to design a solution confronting the global challenges which focus on building a brighter future for developing habitat and transforming cities. "Towards a better urban future"
Event Overview: World Architecture Day 2020 express appreciation for the work architects do and to celebrate some of the finest global architectural achievements. Ar. Krishnarao Jaisim, Founder and Principal architect of Jaisim Fountainhead- a renowned architecture firm in Bangalore and Ar.Dinesh Verma, Managing Director, ACE Group Architects P.Ltd, Bengaluru, were the esteemed chief guests for the event. The Award ceremony for student achievers encouraging their academic and extracurricular performance followed by guests' lectures of the two renowned Architects.
The event was attended by the entire student and faculty community of School of Architecture who gathered together to celebrate the scope and spirit of Architecture. The event was inaugurated in the presence of Our Hon’ble Chancellor, Vice- Chancellor, Registrar, Guests of Honour- Ar. Krishnarao Jaisim and Ar.Dinesh Verma and Dr. Sapna Papu, Director, School of Architecture. The Event started with welcome address by Dr. Sapna Papu followed by formal address of Hon’ble Chancellor and Vice Chancellor. Guests of Honour were introduced by Ar. Shafia Ahmad following which Ar. Jaisim and Dinesh Verma rendering their thoughts on World Architecture. One of the best practices followed at School of Architecture is the institution of annual awards for students who have shown excellence in academics as well as extracurricular activities. The inaugural ceremony was followed by the award ceremony where the students received their awards under various categories. Formal Vote of thanks was rendered by Assistant Director. Ar. Vidya Srikanth.
Session 1: Started with keynote by Ar. Krishna Rao Jaisim. He started his presentation with examples of Anthill and Snail that served as his design inspiration to build sustainable buildings. He went on to showcase some of his finest projects where he draws the design concepts from nature, treating walls as the living skin and using local materials and manpower only. Students were excited to witness the different expressions of a built space through simple organic forms and elements. His project, ‘Sankalp’ was the highlight of the presentation. Ar Krishna Rao Jaisim was truly inspirational throughout his session.
Session 2: Ar. Dinesh Verma presented on the topic ‘MY STYLE” and emphasized on the need to explore and create distinct individual style as an architect. He went on to share about his initial influences like different architectural (Greek, Roman etc.) and construction styles taught in school which are quite evident in his projects. He shared the case studies of his projects having Greek, Greco-Roman, Period, Spanish and Indian influence. Students found his style to be versatile and were motivated to explore their own style of Architecture.
Presentation by Ar. Dinesh Verma was followed by Student presentations from Various Semesters. Ar, Subin Koshy and Ar. Maithri (Alumini) presented to our guests their work on Product Design (10th Semester Work). Followed by presentation of Stadium Design by ninth semester students and presentation of Office Design by Asha of seventh Semester.
Towards end of the event Dr. Sapna Papu expressed gratitude to the guests of honour for sparing their valuable time and handed over a small token of our appreciation to Ar. Krishnarao Jaisim. The event concluded with informal interactive session of students, faculty members and Ar. Krishna Rao Jaisim.
We thank the Honorable Chancellor and the management for providing the online knowledge sharing platform that facilitates to conduct such events. We are thankful to Director Dr. Sapna Papu for her support and encouragement to carry out such a grand event.
