Report of workshop on Relevance of IPR in Life Sciences

Dept. of Biotechnology organized workshop on Relevance of IPR in Life Sciences on 23/04/2018.  The session was attended by UG and PG students of Biotechnology and Biochemistry along with Faculty members. 


The inaugural session was presided by Honorable Vice chancellor, REVA University. Dr. S Y Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor graced the occasion along with Dr. N.Ramesh, Dean-Faculty of Science and Technology and Dr.Beena G, Associate Dean, REVA University. The chief Guest of the session was Dr. Ramakrishna, Prof.of Law, National Law School, Chair Professor (IPR), Bengaluru. The key note speaker for the session was Dr. Sudhesh, Principal, Chairman and Dean, Faculty of Law, Bangalore University, Bengaluru.
Dr. Ramakrishna gave a detailed account o IPR regime in the domains of biotechnology emphasizing on criteria for patenting and subject matter for patenting. Typical examples from the field of biotechnology were given like gene sequences, genetically modified organisms etc.

The key note addressed focused on advantages and disadvantages of having IPR regime in all the domains, international patent and process of filing the patent.

Sessions were very interactive in nature. Students thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and were benefitted from the talks.
