The Competition Cell of REVA University conducted a design challenge, 48 Ghante ka Jugad. Following a structured process of brainstorming and information exchange amongst the coordinators of the club, they settled with something that could benefit the college and also keep the fraternity of Architecture Department bound together even during unprecedented times.

The main motto of this competition was to extricate ideas from young minds, to aid Department fests by designing a temporary multi-purpose installation.

The team took an extra mile to inspire students by connecting dots from diversified locations across India, by means of promotional videos in order to ignite an ex-citement about the competition. Architecture students from various parts of India- Dheeraj Yadav (Karnataka), Priyanka Nair (Kerala), Ginelle Lopes (Goa), Abhinav Garai (Kolkata), Nikitha Madhavan (Tamil Nadu), Vinay Patel (Gujarat), Yash Panwar (Uttar Pradesh), Lalrindki Zadeng (Mizoram), Anvitha C (Andhra Pradesh) and Satakshi Gupta (Uttarakhand) were asked to speak about how this competi-tion is a great opportunity to unify and work as a team, despite the distances. These videos that were uploaded day in and out, kindled enthusiasm amongst the students and got them eagerly waiting for the event!

The club opened the registrations for students on 10th August and had the lines open till 13th August. The students were given the liberty to form groups of three contestants with students from various semesters including the graduate batch. Registrations were received from 26 groups i.e., 78 participants in all. Each of the groups were allotted Unique IDs to avoid identity revelation in their design sheets.

The brief was released on 06:00 PM of 14th  August. At 09:00 PM on the same day, an hour was scheduled for queries. The contest began at 09:00 PM and lasted for the next 48 hours. The deadline for the submission was at 09:00 PM on 16th August. A total of 17 Group submissions were received.

Testimonials from participants:

48 hr. design challenge or rightly put as 'Ghante ka jugaad' did put our minds into fast and furious mode! A kick start to the minds that have gone lazy during the quarantine times. Altogether the outcomes of this competition made me realize the worth of 48hrs. - Preksha Udupa

Honestly, I was so scared since this was the first ever competition, I took part in and giving it a try was definitely a kick start which was much needed to me for partici-pating in various other events. I was nervous  how to actually complete our task in 48 hrs. but this was worth it for sure , it made me realize the importance of dead-lines and team work , how to divide and stick up to our work in limited time. Overall experience was great especially working with senior and my classmate, under-standing their approach to design progress and i learnt a lot of new things from them through this competition.  Working in a team kept me motivated to com-plete our design on time.                            - Satakshi Gupta

It was a really interesting competition since it dealt with designing in a very small scale and opened our minds to a different thinking capability and the brief was easy to understand and time was sufficient enough which in turn also made us re-alize that we can bring out various out of the box ideas.                 - Alen Joseph Martin

Participating in the 48-hour design project was a last-minute decision which proved to be challenging, while simultaneously being educational and enjoyable. It was a well-planned event, with constant updates sent to all participants to ensure that we are always on track. The brief was well thought out and explained all the re-quirements to the T. We were able to work without any sort of confusion and it thoroughly tested our caliber until the very last minute.                           - Tanushree V. Menon
