Activity report on Alumni talk by Dr. Sumedha Dahal

An invited virtual talk by one of our alumnus Dr. Sumedha Dahal, Research Scholar, Department of Biochemistry, IISc, Bengaluru was organized by the Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied Sciences, REVA University on May 7^th, 2021 from 9.30am to 11.00 am. The session started with the welcome address by Prof. Shilpa BR, HoD Biotechnology, Deputy Director, School of Applied Sciences. Dr. Sumedha delivered her talk on the topic “A Roadmap towards Excellence in Research”. The talk was attended by the Postgraduate students of Biotechnology.

Dr. Sumedha initiated her deliverables with her own experiences right from her Postgraduate days in Reva Institute of Management and Sciences ending up in the laboratory of Prof. Sathees C Raghavan, Department of Biochemistry, IISc. She portrayed diligently the hardships faced by her during her doctoral research to reach the position she is in today. Dr. Sumedha enlightened the students with the career prospects post-PG including clinical research, medical writing, medical coding and marketing. She also mentioned regarding the various competitive exams that the students can take up after the completion of their course. Furthermore, Dr. Sumedha gave splendid guidelines to students those who were serious regarding taking research as their future goal. During the entire session, she was very much keen to answer to any question from the student fraternity. Infact, she was ground to earth in clearing the students mindset regarding ‘What to take up next’.

As a whole, the 90 minutes session was informative and interactive. The discussions on various future platforms was meaningful and sound, which was reflected from the gestures of students in terms of their complete involvement irrespective of a virtual interface.
