Despite a huge population, the demand-supply gap for blood units persists in many healthcare facilities in the country. According to a 2012 report by the World Health Organization, only 9 million blood units are available annually, whereas the demand is 12 million units. Voluntary blood donation comprises about 70% of the blood demand, with the rest coming from replacement donors, whereas 62 nations in the world fulfill their blood demands through voluntary donations.
Due to the unprecedented Covid 19 situation, there is a huge demand of Blood in many Hospitals including Narayana Hrudayalaya.
In view of all the above reasons, A Blood donation camp was organized by school of Mechanical and civil engineering on 18/03/2021. The Blood donation camp was organized in association with Narayana Health city.
The students and faculties Participated voluntarily in this cause and regarding this effective awareness campaign was created among students community well in advance, As a result more than 950 units of Blood was collected.
The founder of Narayana Hrudayalaya, Dr Devi Shetty applauded the work of REVA University for the social concern and support given to Blood donation camps from many years. His motivational video to encourage Blood donation during this time of Covid 19 Pandemic was very well received from Faculty and students.
Along with the Blood donation camp, free medical checkup was conducted to all faculties on the next day i.e. 19/03/21, It included Sugar test, BP test, BMI, Hemoglobin test, and ECG test.More than 125 staff members made use of the facility.
The arrangement for all the above activities was done systematically and the volunteers served their best to conduct the programme with social distance and Covid 19 norms. The huge turnout was due to the effective communication carried on by our volunteer student groups in all classes and digital awareness campaign in social media.
We would like to thank our beloved Chancellor, Dr. P. Shyama Raju for providing all facilities and support to conduct this programme. Also, we thank VC sir and Registrar sir for their continuous support.
