As part of the course in Climatology, ‘Design Process for Climate Responsive Architecture’ is introduced to the students. Starting from the broad ‘Site level’ the design matrix works towards the ‘Building level’. The final level of ‘Building Envelope Materials’ needs to be deciphered by students clearly at this level as it becomes a fundamental base for the course on ‘Energy Efficient Buildings’ in the next semester. Thus, a lecture was planned with Ar. Anup Kumar Prasad as the speaker. He is an Architect with a deep interest towards sustainability, his works on this field started from his UG Dissertation and thesis. A Post Graduate in Sustainable architecture and Landscape Design, he specializes in climate responsive architecture and evaluation of energy efficiency in buildings through simulation and comfortability analysis.
The session started with briefing on the basics of Energy and Modes of heat transfer. Focus onto the thermal properties of building materials. Recommendations of different envelope materials and assemblies as per ECBC. Significance of Window to wall ratio, SHGC value recommendations and use of the right external color and texture. Winding up the session the importance of knowledge of the Material properties and their implementation in the building design process to achieve desired thermal comfort in specific climatic zones was emphasized.
In keeping with REVA University values, that students shouldn’t be denied any good opportunity involved in enhancement of student’s knowledge during the COVID-19 situation, an online lecture was conducted.
