Report on Expert Lecture on Graphical Representation and Design of HVAC

Report on Expert Lecture on Graphical Representation and Design of HVAC
On 15th and 18th April 2020

Expert lecture delivered by: Ar. Anup Kumar Prasad
Organised by: School of Architecture, REVA University, Bangalore.
Faculty coordinators: Ar. Anupadma R & Ar. Radhika G
Course: Building Services -III
Mode: Through online Lecture Delivery – MICROSOFT TEAMS PLATFORM
Attended by:
1.      Students of School of Architecture, VI Sem (A&B)- 44
2.      Faculty members of the School of Architecture:  02

OBJECTIVE:
As part of Building services-III, Graphical representation and HVAC design techniques are introduced to the students in unit-4. Further they are encouraged to do HVAC design for their previous semester design floor plan or current semester design floor plan. Hence its is essential for them to understand this unit elaborately to have technical and practical knowledge of the course. Thus the need of expert lecture is crucial.

As per REVA university values, the current COVID-19 situation should not deny any good opportunity involved in enhancement of student’s knowledge. Hence conducted online expert lecture. We had this lecture as 2 sessions considering understanding of the subject, data availability and connectivity issues.

Ar. Anup Kumar Prasad is an Architect with a deep interest towards sustainability, his works on this field started from his UG Dissertation and thesis. He is a PG Graduate in Sustainable architecture and Landscape Design. He is specialized in climate responsive architecture and evaluation of energy efficiency buildings through simulation and comfortability analysis.
Session 1: This lesson started with briefing the HVAC system, its types and thermal comfort conditions. He explained students about the graphical representation involved in HVAC services of a building and the basic design considerations.
Session 2: He elaborated on the HVAC design and the intricacies using model section of multistoried building and a floor plan to explain the reflected ceiling plan. He also explained the calculation part elaborately.

Outcomes of the Guest Lecture:
The VI Sem B.Arch. students were able to recognize and understand the technicality involved in the course. The session was interactive, students participated actively. They understood the process involved in HVAC design. They will submit the end sem project with HVAC design as an output. This lecture will certainly boost their knowledge and vision appropriate to the course. We would like to thank the management and team at REVA University for their support and constant encouragement towards our endeavours.
