Report on Genetics Week Celebrations

Genetics club co-coordinators Dr.Manjula.K.R and Dr. Ramya M of Department of Biotechnology initiated Genetics week celebration in commemoration of Gregor Johnn Mendel (father of Genetics). The week was observed to imbibe the significance of Genetics in the younger minds to enhance their thrist towards the gain of knowledge in the domain. We started the celebrations with talent in the gene competition on 16th July, where students showcased their talent by acting and explaining genetics concepts. On 17th, students actively participated in Bio-dumb charades, 18th quiz was conducted in the morning session and post-lunch, a guest lecture was arranged with Dr. Chethan Nag from Jain University, Bangalore. Dr. Chethan Nag spoke about the advancement in science and research and enlightened students about the application of science in daily life. On 19th Bio-word hunt was organized, which a created curiosity among the participants to search the clues and build a word on the hint given. B.Sc students were the participants and coordinators for all the events. Overall the four day celebrations inculcated interest in genetics and students were benefitted.
