A guest lecture on Design Methodology has been arranged for the 7th semester students from the school of Architecture, for the subject Architectural Design-VII.
To elaborate the topic Design Methodology, Architect Aly Elshafei has been invited. He is from Cairo, Egypt and having diverse experience of teaching at Cairo University, ETH Zurich, Politecnico Di Milano and ENSA Paris-Malaquais. Currenty perusing doctorate and teaching at ENSA Paris-Malaquais, Paris.
The lecture specifically aimed to demonstrate the Design methodology in the contemporary age. He began with explaining the “Indisplinary” and “Interdisciplinary” approach of architecture. Explanation on the architects’ role in both informal and informal scenarios. Further very exquisitely demonstrated the problems associated with Emergence (population growing) and solution through Praetorians and Centralization. Later he elaborated how technical modernity originated in the developed country are being adopted by the developing countries keeping its own primary notion of being secularist, religious modernist, traditionalist, conservativist and fundamentalist.
The next part of the session discusses the topic of Resilience from both deontological school and consequential school point of view, relating to survival and thrival methods. Several live examples and scenario has been discussed. The overall session was mind provoking and interesting which made the students to think deeply and be more aware and responsible towards their job. End of the session was quite interactive and everyone cherished the lecture.
