School of Architecture, REVA University organized a guest lecture on “Le Corbusier: Theories & works” on Oct 15, 2020 as an extended activity for Theory of Architecture and Contemporary architecture for the 5th semester students of B.Architecture. Ar. Sreedevi Ajayan is a practicing architect based at Bangalore. She is an alumnus of CEPT, Ahmedabad and has specialized in Theory of Design. She has wide range of teaching experience including stints at NIT Calicut and as visiting faculty at RUSOA.

Ar. Sreedevi began the lecture with an introduction to the master architect Le Corbusier. She elaborated on the Modulor system of proportions and measurement designed by Corbusier and explained the system to the students in detail. In the next part of her lecture she introduced the students to the artwork and poetry done by Corbusier as a testament to his multidimensional creativity. This was an interactive session where students read out the poetry written by Le Corbusier and analyzed his art works to find parallels between the two. 

Ar. Sreedevi further described the 5 points of Architecture given by Le Corbusier with examples of buildings where these principles have been applied. The final part of the lecture was based on a description of Chandigarh- one of the most well known projects of Corbusier in India. Ar. Sreedevi described the planning and concept behind Corbusier’s design for Chandigarh. She took the students on a visual tour of the city with colorful images and inputs regarding the High court, Secretariat and the open hand sculpture. The students were enthralled with the description and the appealing visuals of the city.
