A guest lecture by Prof. Neeraja Jayan on Master planning for Housing Design was arranged for 5th SEM students on 01th October 2020, through MS Teams. 

Architecture involves a lot of strategy and planning. From the beginning, architects, site engineers, landscape architects must work together to finalize a cohesive master planning which fits all needs. Architectural master planning is the critical first
step in any design process. It is the creation of a framework in which the whole project proceeds. Master plan is also subjected to the building bye-laws, regulations, standards and codes.

Prof. Neeraja provided an overview of importance of Master planning in Architecture and creation of framework. She provided a detailed overview of various aspects involved in master planning like, Built and open spaces, Pathways (pedestrian and vehicular), vegetation, services, cluster level planning and Unit level planning. She also explained Master planning through various examples of housing projects by both Indian and International Architects, like Uttorayon township by Morphogenesis, Toyota woven city:TWC, Presbyterian Homes, The Moorings, and Infosys campus, Nagpur.

Learning outcome
The students were able to understand the process involved in Master planning in Architecture.
