The Department of Biotechnology, REVA School of Applied Sciences organized a guest talk on “Genomics and Career opportunities” on 17th November 2021 at Prof. Junjappa seminar hall. The talk was delivered by Dr. Sudha Narayana Rao, CEO and Co-Director at Genotypic Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and Dithi Omics Pvt Ltd. Dr. Sudha N Rao pioneered genomics as a service in India with the motto "Genomics Simplified" in early 2000.
The event started off by introducing the guest by Dr. Prabhakar Mishra, Assistant Professor, REVA University, School of Applied Sciences. In her talk she emphasized on the basics of genomic techniques and bioinformatics applications in current biological research. The genomic research efforts in operation around the world is the mapping and sequencing of whole genomes. The entire genomes of more than hundred organisms had been completed by early 2002, including the working drafts of the human genome, first published in 2001. The successful completion of the sequencing of these genomes was made possible in part by companies developing and utilizing new technologies and processes to increase the speed and accuracy of mapping and sequencing. This effort has also spawned entire new fields that aim, in various ways, to capitalize on genomics and identify disease-causing genes and new therapeutic strategies. She explained about the Genomic applications in biological research mainly on healthcare industry applications and agricultural industry applications. Infrastructure facility required for genomic technology development, process, analyze and maintenance. Finally, students are actively interacted with Dr. Sudha Narayana Rao. She also mentioned her experience to establish a Genotypic Technology Pvt Ltd and Dithi Omics Pvt Ltd. The talk was informative and interactive. The event ended with vote of thanks.
