School of Architecture has recently collaborated with ACEDGE, an ETHOS of learning as member of knowledge society.

ACEDGE, (ETHOS) under the banner of web series “SENSE N SENSIBILITY” conducted an online broadcast lecture by world-renowned Architect Yasmeen Lari. She is Pakistan's first female architect. She is best known for her involvement in the intersection of architecture and social justice. Her UN-recognized NGO Heritage Foundation Pakistan has been taking on humanitarian relief work and historical conservation projects in rural villages all around Pakistan. She was awarded the prestigious Fukuoka Prize in 2016. More than 200 institutes across India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan have participated in the live broadcasted lecture.

The session for the lecture addressed the broad issues of:
1.    Out of date International aid culture
    Promotion of alien imaginary
    Charity although in good faith
    Lack of and appropriate knowledge tools

2.     Social justice and Humanistic Architecture
    Maximize the potential of barefoot ecosystem
    Bottom-up approach
    Efficient use of fund and resources
    Rights-based development
    Knowledge sharing and training

3.    Barefoot Social Architecture (BASA)
    Lari’s palette for zero-carbon expenses approach
    Building materials:  Earth, Lime, and Bamboo
    Non-Engineered sustainable construction
    World’s largest zero-carbon footprint shelter programme
    Pre-Fab research
    Shaking table performance test

Further the humble architect Suggested working more towards rural and sub-urban architecture specifically for South-Asian countries. She recommended practicing architecture based on context. Ar. Lari suggested even if the maintenance and repairing is the major issue with mud and bamboo architecture, with the updated knowledge and research it can be mitigated. She requested all the budding architects to work towards lowering the carbon-footprint and passion and commitment towards the environment. She appealed to stop using cement for the village and be creative with the profession as poor countries need good design.

The live lecture ended with an interactive session where students and faculties got the opportunity to interact with Ar. Yasmeen Lari. The session inspired several budding architects, hope the torch of flame would be taken forward by our students.
