REPORT ON PANEL DISCUSSION ON CHANGING LANDSCAPE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES

IIC REVA University & School of Management Studies organized a Panel Discussion on “Changing Landscape of Entrepreneurship: Opportunities and Challenges” on the 28th of February 2020 in the C K Prahalad Seminar Hall, Swami Vivekananda Block from 10.00am to 12.45pm. The Panel discussion was conducted as a part of the week long program- Entrepreneurship Week 2020. The galaxy of panelists included stalwarts from entrepreneurship research and businesses. The Panelists included entrepreneurs, entrepreneur generators, angel investors, incubatees and entrepreneurship-researchers. The panellists were Dr. Poornima Wasdani, Ms. Annapoorna A, Mr. Pawan Sriram and Mr. Saurabh Mathur. The panel discussion was moderated by Mr. Sanjay Shukla, Angel investor, educator and entrepreneur generator. The audience included 200 focus group students of MBA, BBA Entrepreneurship and BBA Honors along with faculty.

The panellists shared their experiences and knowledge on the theme of the Discussion and highlighted on what it takes to be an entrepreneur along with the opportunities, challenges and evolution of entrepreneurship. They also spoke of incentives of becoming entrepreneur, challenges, role of opportunity identification in entrepreneurship generation and success, human aspect of entrepreneurship, mass entrepreneurship and technology as an enabler of entrepreneurship. The topic of gender-based entrepreneurship was also given impetus.

The Panel Discussion started with a short welcoming address delivered by Dr. Nitu Ghosh, pcoordinator of BBA Entrepreneurship. The dignitaries were introduced to the audience and welcomed with a small momento on behalf of the School of Management Studies. The discussion started with a talk delivered by each panelist for 15-20 minutes related to the changing landscape of entrepreneurship in India- opportunities and Challenges. Dr. Poornima Wasdani spoke about the evolving trends in entrepreneurship, human aspect of entrepreneurship, mass entrepreneurship, technology integration a san opportunity in entrepreneurship and importance of opportunity identification.

Mr. Pavan Sriram was the second panelist to speak and he emphasized on the point- Why entrepreneurship? And highlighted the importance of problem identification, technology based entrepreneurship, which is also referred to as e-entrepreneurship.

Ms. Annapurna A., founder of Emotionalytics provided a lot of statistics on entrepreneurship and start-ups in India. Her powerpacked talk infused a lot of enthusiasm among the students and also sensitized them on the challenges that every start-up entrepreneur has to face in the current scenario. She also focused on the need to develop one’s emotional intelligence in order to be resilient, which is a very crucial competence of start-up entrepreneurs in order to succeed.

Mr. Saurabh, was the last speaker and he emphasized on the concept of serial entrepreneur. He emphasized how it is always beneficial for the economy and the individual to be a serial entrepreneur. Mr. Saurabh spoke about the resources required to start-up a venture from scratch and the importance of presenting one’s ideas to all possible person in order to get support and funding for establish one’s enterprise. He spoke about technology and agility in entrepreneurship.

The panel discussion was finally summarized and moderated by Mr. Sanjay Shukla. He asked each panelist an interesting question based on what they spoke and this led to a quick interesting deliberation. The students were interested and enthusiastic to learn so much from the beginning to the end of the program. After the panel discussion the distinguished panelists answered few questions asked by students and advised them not to commit few mistakes in the process of the entrepreneurial journey.

Overall it was an interesting and informative session where all the students got to learn a lot.

Finally the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Nitu Ghosh. On behalf of the students and faculty of School of Management Studies, she thanked the dignitaries for sharing their experiences and knowledge with the audience and enlightening all. She thanked Dr. Shubh a A, School of Management Studies for always supporting and motivating in conducting such events. She also thanked the management, staff, non-teaching staff for their support and the students for their patience hearing and good discipline. Dr. S.K. Prasad had been instrumental in connecting to the dignitaries. Dr. Nitu Ghosh expressed her gratitude to him for the same. The panel discussion ended with a group photos and growing inquisitiveness among students towards entrepreneurship.
