Report on Schiffs Base Metal Complexes As Medicines

The Department of Chemistry have organized a guest lecture on "Schiff’s Base Metal Complexes – As Medicines" dated 29th September, 2018 between 10.30 AM to 11.30 AM in New Seminar Hall, 1st Floor, Science block, RISM.
Resource Person: Dr. K. Ramakrishna Reddy, Associate Professor, and Co-ordinator PG Department and Research Studies in Chemistry, Govt. Science College, Bangalore.

The guest lecture mainly focused on synthesis, characterization, biological evaluation and properties of metal complexes which were made from Schiff’s bases. The talk covers the majority of key points which were designed in the curriculum for M.Sc., in the area of coordination chemistry (Inorganic chemistry). 
Talk focused on the following key points:

• Introduction to Schiff’s Bases
• Synthesis of Schiff’s Bases
• Preparation of Metal Complexes based on Schiff’s bases
• Characterization of the molecules through spectroscopic techniques like –NMR, MASS, CHNS, UV, IR, ESR, TGA etc., 
• Biological activities of Schiff’s base -  based metal complexes

Expected outcomes: Students shall able to analyze: 

• knowledge on the Schiff’s bases and their metal complexes
• synthesize and characterize the Schiff’s base metal complexes 
• the spectophotometric data of co-ordination metal complexes

The lecture is helpful for research scholars and faculty members of the School of Chemical Sciences who are involved in Metal complex based research activities. The session was good and we would like to thank speaker Dr. K. Ramakrishna Reddy for delivering the talk.
