Report on SDP PROGRAMME AT CELL KRAFT

Department of Biotechnology, REVA University had arranged five days skill development programme on ‘Molecular Techniques for microbial identification’ from 21st to 25th October 2019 for third semester PG students of M.Sc. Biotechnology. A total of 11 students attended the workshop at Cell Kraft. Students acquainted detailed knowledge on various techniques and process on ‘Molecular Techniques for microbial identification’. Each day had different sessions on various concepts.
Day 1: Introduction about different laboratories including Level 2 Biosafe Animal Tissue Culture Lab and various equipments like gradient PCR, UV-Vis Spectroscopy, Agarose Gel Electrophoresis unit, SDS-PAGE unit and Flow cytometer. Day 2: Isolation of microbial DNA isolation using by c-TAB method. Day 3: DNA quantification and qualification using UV-Vis Spectroscopy and Agarose Gel Electrophoresis. Day 4: Isolation of Fungal DNA using c-TAB method and and confirmed using Agarose gel electrophoresis. Day 5: Amplification of DNA using PCR and confirmation using agarose gel electrophoresis.
The entire workshop was supported and arranged by Prof. Renuka Madhu (HOD, Department of Biotechnology) and Dr. Beena G (Associate Dean, School of Applied Sciences).
Outcome of SDP: The Skill Development programme had been very helpful as the students were allowed to use various instruments, apparatus and developed their skills as per the demand of basic biotechnological companies.
