Report on Skill Development Programme at Fort, Nandi Hills

School of Architecture, REVA University in collaboration with INTACH Bengaluru Chapter conducted 3-days Skill Development Programme for students of 5th sem B.Arch. The workshop was conducted at Fort, Nandi Hills.
The aim of this workshop was to develop a conservation plan for Fort at Nandi Hills, Bangalore.

The objective of this exercise in the skill development programme was to take the students through the process adopted in any conservation programme, to come up with a plan to restore a monument. All aspects dealt in projects of this kind, such as developing an understanding of the monument, identifying the significance or values to them, assessing its condition and damages to the monument, developing strategies to restore them and finally, presenting it to the visitors. The first two days of the workshop was held at Fort, Nandi Hills and the final day at the School of Architecture, REVA University.  

Programme schedule:
Day 1 
The workshop began at Fort, Nandi Hills, with the introduction to the concept of conservation followed by guided visit to the monument by Ar. Pankaj Modi (Fort Walls and all its features) while he explained the historical importance of the place
In the afternoon, the students were asked to document the fort monument and assess their values.

Day 2 
The students continued the value assessment exercise and later the condition mapping of the fort wall and ancillary structures within the precinct was carried out by the students under the guidance of Ar. Pankaj Modi and Ar. Sonalika to identify the major issues so as to develop a restoration strategy for the monument

Day 3 
The third day of workshop was conducted at School of Architecture, REVA University, where the students were guided to prepare and articulate restoration strategies. These strategies were documented to compile a report towards the conservation plan for Fort, Nandi Hills.

The compiled report will be submitted to INTACH, Bengaluru chapter for futher action.

We also thank our Director, School of Architecture, Dr. Vimala Swamy, for her constant support and guidance. We also thank Director, UIIC, Dr. Kirankumari Patil for organizing this SDC.

Finally we would like to thank Ar. Pankaj Modi, Conservation Architect, INTACH Bengaluru Chapter and Ar. Sonalika for their expert guidance and training in conducting the workshop and also Department of Horticulture, Chickballapur for allowing us to enter the premises and conduct the documentation.
