Report on Visit to Chikmagalur on account of Site Study
Dates: 5th March to 7th March 2021
Faculty accompanied: Dr. Vimala Swamy, Anup Kumar Prasad & Gopisainath
Students: 28 Students, VIth Semester, School of Architecture
School of Architecture, REVA University has organized a trip to Chikmagalur to study contour site based on their academic design project of Vi semester. The design proposal given to students is to design a resort with a convention center in hilly terrain. The site selected for the project is in Chikamagalur near Dasarahalli.
The site map was plotted by faculty AnupPrasad and Gopisainath and contours marked on it using google earth and demarcated 10 acres for Resorts design after visiting the site. The site is accessible (9m wide) from Dasarahalli village road, partially agricultural usage and thick plantation. The site is flat in the forefront and has steady steep on the western side. The most remarkable unique feature within site is the area dedicated to dense trees, which creates a whole micro-climate within site and a dedicated area for some hardcore wilderness zone. The higher most edge of the site gives a 270-degree visual angle establishing beautiful views of peaks and making space to witness stunning sunrises and sunsets.
The stretch of trees with nests gives the chirps of the birds. According to the analysis of the views, contours can play a significant role in getting good ideas. By considering it, the design can be divided into premium blocks with beautiful views. All blocks may have good scenery.
The students also studied about climatology, buildings, local materials, tourist places around Chikmagaluru.
