Seminar on Introduction to High Voltage Engineering and Effects of CORONA Discharge in Power System

The School of EEE had organized seminar on "Introduction to High Voltage Engineering and Effects of CORONA Discharge in Power System" on 05th March, 2019 between 02:30 PM to 04:30 PM in KALPANA CHAWLA SEMINAR Hall for B.Tech. 6th Semester students.

The seminar on was delivered by Prof. Dr. K. N. Ravi, Former Joint Director, CPRI and Head of the Department, Saptagiri College of Engineering.

The lecture was focused on the following key points:
1.  Introduction to High voltage
2.  System Voltage – Nominal Voltage and High Voltage level
3.  Types of over voltage based on its origin
4.  Introduction to Corona
5.  Effects of Corona Discharge in Power System
6.  Merits and Demerits of Corona Discharges
7.  Exploration of new type Conductors and Insulators for HV Transmission System.
8.  Practical portraits on different High Voltage Equipment with Lightning and Corona effects.

Following are the outcomes achieved:
1.  Students will be able to understand the importance of High Voltage engineering.
2.  Explain about system voltage – Nominal Voltage, Higher Voltage and their types based on origin.
3.  Understand the concepts of Corona Formation and Corona Discharges in High Voltage Power Transmission System.
4.  Need of testing High Voltage Equipment for finding Partial Discharge (PD), Radio Interferences (RI) and Pollution during Corona Discharges.
5.  Know the advancements happening in design of High Voltage Insulators and Conductors.
