Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied Sciences organized a seminar on Organic farming which is very relevant in the present agriculture scenario. The environmental and health concerns created by conventional farming has made many farmers shift to organic farming, which if done scientifically is highly profitable and sustainable. The resource person for the seminar was Dr. Shubha, Associate Professor, Department of Botany, GFGC, Vijayanagar, Bangalore. The speaker highlighted the health and environmental issues created by conventional farming. The specific example of Endosulfan tragedy in Kasaragod district of Kerala was highlighted. The resource person also touched upon the need, principles involved and various steps in organic farming. A detailed account of benefits of organic farming was shared with the audience.

The interesting talk was attended by 160 students across the University from various streams such as MBA, MCA, C& IT, Arts and Humanities and Applied Sciences. Faculty members from School of Applied Sciences were also present for the session. The session was very informative. A thorough interaction followed the presentation where many queries of students and faculty members.
