Seminar on “Philosophy of Learning”
The School of Applied Sciences, Dept. of Biotechnology had organized an expert lecture on “Philosophy of Learning” on 18th March 2019 between 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in Junjappa Seminar hall, Science Block.
Dr. Kanchi. N. Gandhi completed M.S. in Northeastern Louisiana University, Ph.D. in Texas A&M University and presently serving as Senior Nomenclatural Registrar at the Harvard University Herbaria, Cambridge MA, U.S.A. was invited as a Guest of Honor to interact with PG and UG Biotechnology and Biochemistry students.
Dr. Gandhi, besides writing numerous journal articles, has coauthored the following book publications viz., An Annotated Checklist of Indian Pteridophytes, parts 1 & 2 (2017, 2018). His articles are included in the following books: Perspectives of Plant Biodiversity (2002); Plant Diversity in the Himalaya Hotspot Region, volume 2 (2018); and Global Biodiversity, volume 4 (2018). Gandhi has been serving as the Nomenclature Editor and Etymology Editor for the Flora of North America project (2000-present). Dr. Gandhi’s has received several awards and honors including prestigious ‘American Society of Plant Taxonomists’ Distinguished Service Award (2010) for his work in the field of taxonomy.
Around 120 students from the Biotechnology and Biochemistry Department had attended the expert lecture.
This interesting lecture basically included about knowing, understanding and learning nature surrounding us and applying it in developing technology for the benefit of mankind. Dr. Gandhi explained the concept of knowing and learning in an unique way by quoting several exemplary illustrations. His talk also guided students about perceiving the nature and analyzing it in a scientific manner.
