About the Event/Activity School of Architecture, REVA University organized a site visit with our industry partners – IPIRTI to study Bamboo as a material as per the SSBC-V curriculum. The course requires the students to study and understand a list of materials, their composition, typologies, processing and application in the industry.
IPIRTI is one of the premium organizations in the country that is working on research, development and training of various materials like substitutes to timber, bamboo, plywood, MDF, wood and bio-fiber composites, adhesives, timber identification etc.
The main intention of the site visit was to give the students an idea of the approach and method of conducting a material study and survey. A guided tour and demonstration of Bamboo processing, typologies and applications were discussed by Dr Ramkumar and the officials at IPIRTI.
Outcome of the Event The students were exposed to the entire life cycle of bamboo as a material – where it is geographically available in India, the processing, typologies, products and applications. The demonstration of cutting and splitting of bamboo, the prototype structures built on campus surely helped the students to understand the applications, usage and also the sustainability factor of Bamboo. I would like to thank our Director, Prof. Vidya Srikanth for her immense support in encouraging such initiatives
