Location: Peenya Industrial estate, Mysore Road
School of Architecture, REVA University organized a site visit to Timber Yard Factory and Wood showroom as a part of their curriculum on 29th February, 2020.
The students of second semester studied Timber as a construction material and its usage for doors, windows, partition walls and staircases. The topic is difficult to comprehend for students without a hands-on experience. The visit to the factory where they witnessed the process of seasoning to manufacture gave a clear picture. They also got to handle the timber sections and feel the weight and rigidity of the material.
The students visited Wood Nations, a large retail and wholesale dealer who specialize in Plywood, block boards, Flush and Panel doors, folding and sliding door, hardware, cabinetry, Veneers and Laminates. The visit helped them understand different types of doors and windows like Flush, Panel, Sliding, Casement, Bi-Fold etc. Valid information was gained on various thicknesses of Plywood, Veneer, Korean wallpaper etc. available in today’s market.
The Factory visit displayed information on wood sections of Acacia and teak wood that are glued and compressed into larger sections. The first stage of finger-jointing to frames to finished doors was easy to comprehend for the students. The knowledge on carpentry joints like Tenon and mortise, tongue and groove, mitred, scarf etc. was also tested on site.
