The Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied Sciences organized a Two day Online Faculty development program (FDP) on 23rd and 24th July, 2020. Resource person for this FDP is Dr. Bony De Kumar, Genomics Core Manager, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of North Dakota, Grand folks, ND, United States. Title of this FDP is “Studying gene expression using genomics approaches – Bulk to single cell expression analysis”.Dr. Bony an accomplished genomics specialist, published more than 40+ scientific articles in peer reviewed journals. He has published his research findings in a peer reviewed journals of very high impact factor which includes Proceeding of National academy of Sciences (PNAS), Cell Reports, Nature communications, Genome research, Science reports, Blood, Cell Reports, Genes and development etc.
On first day, Dr. Kumar spoke about basic techniques available to study gene expression which includes low through put methods such as Northern blot and qPCR and its limitations and briefly introduced about latest advancements in the RNA analysis. On second day, Dr. Kumar spoke in detail about RNA-Seq analysis and its applications. He walks us through the latest advancements in the analysis of single cell expression analysis along with examples. He also spoke in detail about various next generation sequencing platforms, its advantages and applications. Many distinguished faculties of different colleges and universities from all over the country have participated in this FDP.
Dr. Kumar lecture was very informative and helped all the participants to understand the latest developments in the gene expression analysis. After the completion of the lecture, Dr. Kumar also answered all the queries and doubts from the faculty members in a delightful manner.
