The Department of Media Studies, School of Arts and Humanities, REVA University organised a webinar on 20th May 2020 by Dr Sibichen K Matthew, a senior IRS, policy researcher and blogger to guide students about “Career in Civil services – prospects, challenges and preparations.”
The webinar took place on the Zoom app and entry was free to everyone interested. The webinar saw an attendance of over 100s people. “If one is interested to bring about a change in society, from a very primary level, joining civil services is their best option as the job operations range from the basic to the parliamentarian level” said Dr Sibichen. With this statement as the core foundation to the webinar he went about explaining the inside outs of how to go about preparing for civil services. He mentioned that the preparation for civil service examinations requires a lot of dedication and one could start reading by referring to the NCERT textbooks of 10th and 12th grades. The NET textbooks of various subjects could also be of great help, he continued.
He also threw some light on how aspirants could take up the exam in their regional language entirely, which removes the language barriers. He also pointed out that even students pursuing their post-graduation, or people who have already started their jobs can apply, study and take up examinations, if they are within the age limit. He also spoke about his own experience. Sufficient time was also provided for interaction and Mr Sibichen answered all the questions patiently. The webinar inspired students to build their interests towards civil services.
