Webinar on New Space Era Beyond the Horizon

Webinar on “NEW SPACE ERA: BEYOND THE HORIZON! – FROM CANSATS TO CUBESATS AND LAUNCHING YOUR OWN SATELLITE”

School of Electronics and Communication Engineering & Centre for Satellite Technology and Space Exploration (STSE) had organized a webinar  on “New Space Era: Beyond the Horizon! – From CanSats to CubeSats and Launching your own Satellite” dated 23.07.2020, 6.30 PM to 7.30 PM, IST. 

Objective: The objective of this session is to create an interest among the students related to CanSats, CubeSats and also build their own CanSats and participate in “World CanSat and Rocketry Championship (WCRC)” which is a great opportunity to represent our University at National and International levels, also this webinar aimed at creating an awareness about space consortium UNISEC and scope for students in International level platforms. Around 40 STSE team members and other students from various schools have attended this session. The detailed Session report is given below:

Session 1
Speaker: Mr. Nikhil Riyaz                                                      
Speaker Bio: Nikhil Riyaz - is the Founder and Director of a Startup, ‘TSC Technologies Pvt. Ltd’ an aerospace company based in India. He is currently a Research Engineer at New Horizon College, Bangalore. His research interests lie in the field of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Rapid Prototyping. He has been working on small satellite development for the past 3 years. 

His major contribution towards New-Space has been the research and development of affordable CubeSat Subsystems. He is passionate towards space technology and wishes to make space accessible to the common man

Topics Covered: A brief introduction about Mr. Nikhil Riyaz and his team, their achievements and various workshops attended and conducted by them at national and international levels. Session 2 

Speaker: Mr. Sanketh S Huddar

Speaker Bio: Sanketh S Huddar completed his bachelors in Computer Science Engineering in NHCE. He is the Founder and Director of Startup, ‘TSC Technologies Pvt. Ltd’ an aerospace company and Startup, GeekSpace Inc (Innovative Software Solutions) both based in India. He has been associated with IBM US (Research Intern collaborated with Google) IBM India (Jnr. Data Science Intern), Samara University (Russia), Israel Space Agency, CSPD (Serbia), Indian Institute of Kanpur (IITK), Indian Technology Congress Association (ITCA), and Global Intern at TakenMind Inc (A United Nations Initiative).
He has travelled 18+ Countries including Russia, Israel, Europe, etc. during his educational tenure at New Horizon College of Engineering. He has won global competitions and recognitions including 2019 International CanSat/Rocketry Competition held at Serbia in October 2019. He has been an esteemed winner at global competitions and events such as Google PI 2020,  UC Berkeley - Andhra Smart Village Hackathon, SAP Hackathon – 2018, GitHub Campus Expert and Scholarship Recipient, SAP Hackathon – 2019, Karnataka Smart Village Hackathon, 2018 (Supported by IBM, NASSCOM, ITCA and Agritech), BCIC Accelathon – 2019 and Special Jury Award at Airbus Aerothon, 2019, Facebook-Udacity Secure and Private AI using Pytorch Scholarship Challenge, 2019 Scholar Recipient and Finalist for Design4India Innovation Award by NASSCOM INDIA in September ’19. ! He has filed 25+ Patents filed in India, out of which 17 are published by the Indian Patent Office.

Session 3  
Speaker: Ms. Athira Ajayakumar

Speaker Bio: With a zeal towards space, Athira Ajayakumar has been passionate about developing small satellites! She is one of the Founders and Promoters of 'TSC Technologies Pvt. Ltd’, an aerospace company based in India. She is also a Research Engineer at University Space Engineering Consortium (UNISEC-India). She loves to bring electronic hardware to life by meddling with codes! Apart from the mysteries of the Space, Embedded Systems, IoT, Machine Learning and Deep Learning fascinates her. She actively participates in the development and testing of CubeSat's and CanSat's subsystems and has been working in this field for more than a year.  She aims at inculcating and motivating students to work on space projects. She adores learning and loves to teach what she learns.

Topics Covered: Introduction to University Space Engineering Consortium (UNISEC), India. Vision and Objectives of UNISEC, Benefits of being a UNISEC member: a) Making your own CanSats and CubeSats, b) Workshops, c) MoUs for professional trainings/projects, d) Publishing books and patents, e) Collaborative training programmes/opportunities abroad. Discussion on the achievements and activities of UNISEC India, and elite scientists and eminent personalities under the consortium.

Outcome: The webinar created the awareness among the students about CanSats, CubeSats, World CanSat and Rocketry Championship (WCRC) and University Space Engineering Consortium (UNISEC), India. This webinar has provided an exposure to the various space related activities, space consortium and international level platforms for students to participate and showcase their work in the field of satellite technology and space exploration.
